The season closes in grand style with a blockbuster program. It opens with “Starburst,” written by Jessie Montgomery, who is quickly establishing herself among today’s leading composers. This is followed by the gorgeous Four Last Songs of Richard Strauss, featuring the rising star Kathryn Henry as the soprano soloist. Maestro Lopera then leads the amazing First Symphony of Mahler, a work of massive proportion and, with its sense of victory and celebration, a fitting finale to his first season as RSO’s music director.
